Recognising Newer Graphics Cards for Sims2
#141 08-10-2013
Yup - pretty much guaranteeing that it's not recognising the NVidia.

I'll do a bit of a research on how to enable the NVidia card for games, and get back to you - it will take me a while.

Thanks for looking into it for me! I don't mind waiting and I can maybe ask in a few hardware forums or something too.

Thanks Smile

I don't suppose you've managed to find anything out?

I've posted in a few hardware forums but there haven't been any responses yet.

I don't know if you have talked about my problem before but I teell you what is happening to me. I bought a new PC and it has a AMD Radeon HD 8670D. I had the classical problems of new cards and TS2: Resolution and Smooth Edges and I could fic them. But I am still having a problem I can't fix: Textures.

I have Texture Detail "High" but it looks like if I had "Low" and I don't not why because my graphic card is more powerful than the one I had in my old PC, and I could play with High Detail on it and now I can't...

I suppose that the problem is somewhere in GraphicRules.sgr but I do not know where... I can upload a picture o giving you my GraphicRules file if you need it.

Please Kiri help!

Thanks

Hi alexgero17, if you can upload a copy of the following:

your config-log.txt that you can find in the \My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Logs\ folder

It will start with the name of your computer, (mine is WHOOSH) then config-log.txt

it will tell me what the problem is.

I'm pretty sure that I can fix it.

Hi there, I've been reading the thread, and it's been very informative. Unfortunately, although I think I understand the underlying concepts, I'm just banging my head against the wall at this point.

I'm not a Simmer, so to speak, but my wife has been playing for close to 10 years if including the first one. Our computer broke down, so I bought a computer, but all the work she's put in looks uglier than ugly.

I forced the resolution to 1920 x 1080, and added the computer ID and string/name. I adjusted the graphics rules, and to no luck.

If there is any way you can help, I would be very very grateful. Lots of positive aura headed your way, so to speak Wink
I'm listing my log, then my graphics setting, and finally my graphics card.

Again, thanks for reading this, and I hope to hear back from you soon.

.txt  config-log_dunbain.txt (Size: 10.22 KB / Downloads: 518) dunbain again.

Here's my config-log. Just to let you know, most of the textures in the game are flashing pink, and the game is very slow. If I remove my graphic card name from the rules slg, then it goes back to a normal state.

Hi there, I posted a second ago but was flagged as spam.

The short of it is that I'm absolutely desperate to fix the graphical settings for my wife. She's been part of the community for so long that I don't want to see that go away.

I've included the log and both config files, but please ask me anything -- I'll be as much help as I can.

Thanks for reading this; any consideration is appreciated.

hi, sorry about the spam alert Big Grin

I guess you signed up, zoomed over and posted the post, cos you knew exactly where you wanted to be and what to say.... Which is normal. However, my spam system is behavior based and so sometimes it gives a false alert based on time between registration and posting.

Hi Dunbain - this version should fix it for you. You have the texture memory set to 32Mb problem, which is caused because the game can no longer find out what texture memory you actually have. The Video Cards.sgr doesn't have your card in it, you can discard it. It doesn't actually matter if the card is in the Video Cards.sgr if it's a Radeon, NVidia or Intel.

Download Graphics Rules

You will need to put it in the following folders:

\The Sims 2 Mansion and Garden Stuff\TSData\Res\Config\
\The Sims 2 Mansion and Garden Stuff\TSData\Res\CSConfig\

(Save your originals first, just in case).

I seriously was going to give up but found your posts at my wits end. I can't thank you enough.
I think it worked (at least my wife said so; I'm at work right now so I can't see for myself).

Just curious, is there a reason why the card is listed in the video card.sgr as "AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series" , whereas my card would effectively be a "AMD Radeon HD 8700 Series" card? Just curious how the HD 7800 Series applies in this case.

I'd also appreciate if you could tell me what you did with the graphics.sgr, because I'd like to use the same logic and attempt this fix for Sims 3.

Again, thank you so much, and I'll let you know if things worked for sure once I see for myself.
