Sorry, forgot to mention that I've already edited the config file to match the first post,
the problem still persists. :/

The problem is also present when creating characters.

@Malmern -

It's not the config file that you edit - it's the graphic rules. But I suspect that's what you meant? For CAS and so on you need to also change the graphic rules in CSConfig folder - or it won't show.

In your config log - you've got

boolProp simShadows true
uintProp optionShadows 3
uintProp Shadows 3 #default: 3

This tells me that all your shadows are on and on high.

If you do a search in both graphic rules in Config folder and CSConfig folder, and look for simShadows - and set it to false, the problem should go away. But it does need to be done in both folders.

@hubertcumber
What do you mean by 'it doesn't work' - I've had a look at your config log - and it tells me that it is at high resolution. So I need more info.

@ChiSake
Use the INTEL fix from the first post.

Thanks for letting me know Ascendense - so glad it's working for you.

@Cronox
What Lee said. The config log says that it's using the Intel on High Resolution - so it's going to be ok as it is.

Alright, hi. I'm posting here because I have tried everything under the sun and my game is not working correctly.
I have Windows 7, 8GB of Ram, 2.0GHZ and a dual card system--- integrated Intel Graphics AND an ATI Radeon HD 6700m card.
Through my graphics control center, I have the game set to use the ATI card. However, the game is not picking it up, as "smooth edges" is disabled. (I tried it while playing a family.)
I've tried modifying the graphicsrules file myself, I've edited my config file (to turn on anti aliasing) AND I even downloaded the RADEON graphics file here... when I did that, the game was totally flickering and the Sims were "being hid" like objects are. So, now I'm asking for help, because I have done everything I've seen on help forums and nothing has worked.

This image shows the game has been set to use the ATI card. The attached log file is from when I was using the RADEON graphics file from this site.

EDIT: I can't do the flickering fix. My whole problem is SMOOTH EDGES is disabled.

@DJames

I've had a look at your config log. It says that you're not picking up the graphic rules form the first post.

When other people have had this problem, we've worked through all the problems, and then discovered that it something corrupted in the installation, and re-installing it fixed the problem.

So my suggestion would be
1. Uninstall/Reinstall your game. If you are using the Ultimate Collection let me know. That has it's own unique problems.
2. use the INTEL fix from the first post.

@Daleylife
To know exactly what's happening I need to see your config-log.txt
If it is picking up the RADEON card from here, then you've probably missed the very last step to fix the stuttering and flickering

"Screen Flickering and Stuttering Issue" Go to this heading in the first post, and you'll see how to fix it.

I edited my above post with more info and the log file.

@Daleylife

Thanks for that. it's telling me that the INTEL fix that you need in there isn't there. Regardless of whether you are using the Radeon card or not - the game thinks you are using the INTEL card, and because the old INTEL cards were rubbish, it disables the high-resolution. So you need to use the INTEL fix to enable the High resolution (which behaves same almost exactly for each type of card), and then once the game is letting you use hi-res, you can use the flickering and stuttering fix.

You get the Intel fix from the attachments to the first post. Please use that fix, and then come back to me with how it's going.

Okay. I downloaded the intel fix. Now the game is worse. I'm having the flickering that the Radeon fix gave me, I'm down to only having one resolution (800x600) and SMOOTH EDGES is still disabled. My laptop is from 2012 so I don't know why I'm having so much trouble.

Thank you for such an amazing post!!!

I have a Intel HD 4000 card and I tried the Intel Fix. I was able to create a sim, but it is still crashing when I tried to customize him.
I couldn't enter in any other family.

I'm attaching my log after using the Intel Fix.

Thanks!!

By the way I'm using Ultimate Collection from Origin
