Yes the base is recolourable. I admit to being lazy, my UV Mapper is no longer cooperating with me and I need to check out a UV map or it's a case of time consuming trial and error.

Yeah, I think the base is not meant to take on a wood grain texture. It may look nice in different shades of metallic colours, like a darker grey.

Working on 6 metal colours now, brass, bronze, copper, gold, gunmetal & silver, just trying to get the shine right. I'll add them here when I'm finished.
