This is a book that was recommended to me by my Great Dane friend. The author is Swedish-Norwegian, and has written 47 Ice People book of which about 5-9 are translated into English, the rest are in Swedish and Norwegian.

I read this not knowing what to expect, and wondering if the english translation would match up with the swedish/norwegian version that my friend loved so much.

It is not a complicated book. The story is simple, and told through the eyes of a peasant girl, although educated. Her images are really strong and I found it easy to imagine what was happening. The translation itself is a bit clunky at times. The female characters are all strong, and nicely fleshed out whether they are allies or antagonists. the male characters are too.

I found it very easy to read - finished it in a couple of hours, and I was quite taken with Silje and Tengel.

It's a light read, and worth it to get immersed in their world.

That one looks interesting, though I would really want more translations before investing into a series, if you see what I mean.
