I've never been in the habit of making backups. And whenever I delete a file, I *DELETE* the file; the trash bin on my computer never sees any use.

At some point I must have made an unrecoverable error. Because after a thorough cleanup action, I found that the folder "My Documents / EA Games / The Sims 2" has gone AWOL..
This means that all my 'hoods folders and, more importantly, my Downloads folder, have gone to the great beyond, where no Sims live.
And with nothing in the bin and no backups, there is no way that I can ever find and bring back the tens of thousands of files that made up my Downloads folder...
So, in light of the fact that Simming had become somewhat of a rarity for me anyway, I'm not even going to try to recover from this disaster.
Therefor, after 16 years of happy simming, I must call it quits. My last Simming day is behind me.

Now there is this sim of mine; Zoraya Krantz, atrociously evil witch of high ability, member of a family that contains many witches of different alignments.
Zoraya's traits are:
Sloppy/Neat: 10

So recently, I was controlling Bärbel Roche, a sim from a different household, visiting Sim Center South (Downtown), where I see Zoraya walking around in her swimwear... She's obviously been swimming. Then I see mrs Crumplebottom making a beeline towards Zoraya, and like most of you, I was assuming the end of the story. So, I chose to give Bärbel my full attention, have her go fishing, or talk to other sims, whatever... Then, a minute or two later, I see Zoraya again, STILL in swimwear... I was intrigued: how was she not in her casual wear?

Then I saw old Crumplebottom make a beeline for Zoraya again, so this time I kept an eye on the two of them. And here is what I see.
First, old Wrinklebutt starts poking her finger towards Zoraya, and snarling some nasty remarks, telling her off for not being properly attired.
Then I see Zoraya point her finger back, and snarling at the old hag, as if saying: "All bark but no bite, your growling means nothing to me, old hag!"
And then, without getting properly dressed, Zoraya just walks away, and mrs Crumplebottom acts as if nothing has happened!

I was properly amazed by this exchange. Sometimes, these sims still teach me new things. Some sims don't let the old crone tell them what to wear!]]>

I've been trying to find a solution to this crashing issue I've been having. I already tried the following:

-Applied the 4GB patch
-Used the graphics ruler program to create the appropriate graphic rules for the game (Which helped my game to run more smoothly)

The game will usually crash when only on a community lot, it takes about 3-5mins then terminates the program.

If anyone has any knowledge or possible solution to this problem please fill me in, it would be greatly appreciated!]]>

There seems to be an issue where the code or whatever it's called sometimes gets confused and edits a new post onto the preceding post for some reason. If a person exits the thread completely and re-enters, it seems to fix itself.

If you remember my earlier desperate "HELP" post... All tech dude had to do was wipe my newish HD (it had been used-for-about-2-weeks a couple years ago, with a Vista install on it,) stick it in my machine, and install Win7 on it. It took him a full month - and just short of $200... *grumble*

Anyway, my new-ish HD is now working great.
The clone I made of my old drive was fine for what I needed - to save my old program files/etc. Thank you for all your help on that
Nothing was lost - everything is back up and running smoothly.

Or was... until today. Today, I got a black screen. It's my GPU. (Not the monitor. Not the cables.)
So - I went back to my old (and now severely mutilated) Vista corpse - got that old graphics card, and swapped them out.
Since that old card is really very ancient (2007), it's sister SLI card bit the dust years ago, and it's been used pretty hard - I know it's on it's last legs, and needs replacing. ASAP.
But... I have no idea what card to get?

The card that just died was NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 - and I liked it just fine for my TS2, Dragon Ages, and PhotoShop Elements 4.

The ancient card that is filling in right now is NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT

My OS on that machine is Win 7 (I'll attach the CONFIG log from yesterday - on the GTX 650 card)
That machine is an old HP Pavilion P6330f

I want the best fit for that machine and TS2 (and Dragon Age - but, that's extra)
Any ideas?

I turned on my Win7 simming machine this morning and it came up with a warning - error code HD 521-2W - which I googled and found means you better be backed up because your hard drive may not start again. OK - mild panic. But, I got a back-up, right?

My external HD (back-up) is kinda full - there's not enough space to put another full B/U on it... and it's been running kinda rough too, so I thought I might as well have it check itself out for errors and fix what it could. That was started about 5 hours ago... it's half way done. Tension is mounting *Grrrr*

So, then I remembered daughter has an external HD - Can I use it? Sure, but it's broken. What?!?
Sure enough, it has corrupted itself. When did this happen I ask. Oh, a while ago *shrug* (OMG - this is NOT my day for computers!)
And, of course, she has a bunch of drawings/files on there she doesn't want to lose. At this point I'm trying to remember to breathe... I can do this...
OK kid, here's what we gotta do. A "quick reformat" and then, try to recover your data. Fingers crossed; that's what we did. Or - are doing...
Recuva is 19% done (has 6 hours to go) and has found 41,068 files. Now, I know she's a prolific "draw-er" but..., really? *sigh*

Here's what I want to do:
Before my old Vista machine died, I had bought it a new HD (I thought that was it's problem.) Turns out it had terminal cancer... that machine is dead dead. RIP.
Anyway... It left me this new HD (WD Blue 1TB Desktop Hard Disk Drive - 7200 RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch - WD10EZEX) still sitting in it's old case.
I, of course, formatted it to my old machine, which was a Vista.
My current machine with the dying HD is Win 7. I do not have Win 7/OS installation discs as it came pre-installed on the PC.
I want to use this mostly new HD to replace my dying one - can I do that? I can, can't I?
I think I can use MacriumReflect (thanks @Kunder - I know what that is now) - and basically "back-up" the dying HD, and "restore" it to the new-ish HD. Right?
That will copy-over the OS to the new HD?
But, first, I'll have to completely wipe the "new" HD right? I don't want any Vista bits hanging around.

Am I on the right track here?

BTW - I have a new dedicated simming machine in the works, but I'd like to keep this one going for as long as I can.
