My problem was a little more... strange. Perhaps this will help others in the process.

I had my "My Documents" folder linked to another location in my case it was a USB Flash Drive (which are VERY SLOW)

When the sims was doing it's first launch and creating all these files it was taking forever due to the transfer speed. To change it, simply go to "USERNAME" and then right click on My Documents and go to properties, then click LOCATION and set "default" that should help get the game from hanging.

Alright. I have the ultimate collection and I did not have the graphics file in both of those folders. But I just corrected that, loaded up the game and same problem: flickering/ transparent sims, only 800x600 resolution and SMOOTH EDGES is disabled.

OK. So as far as we can see - the game part is set up as well as can be done.
So the next thing is doing a DXDiag - do you know how to do one of those?
And after that to update your DirectX.

Step 1:
Given that you are getting this error with reinstalling - you need to download the latest graphic drivers for your graphics card.
You can get that here from the AMD Site

Step 2:
Make sure that you have DirectX updated - Microsoft Site

Step 3:
Check that everything is good.

Select your Start menu - there should be a thing that says 'run'
type in dxdiag and press enter.
It will bring up a dialog window. At the bottom there is a button that says 'save all information...'
cllick on that button, and it will create a text file. Post that text file up here.

See if your game starts.
If it does post up the config log.
If it doesn't let me know what message it gives, whether it is still the same as previously.

Graphic drivers are up to date.

DirectX is up to date.

Everything is good and up to date.

I can start the game in windowed mode (adding " -w" at the end of path in properties) but in normal mode appear the same message: "Failed to find any DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapters in this system! Please make sure you have a DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapter and have installed the latest drivers provided by the manufacturer. The application will now terminate."

Here are DxDiag and game logs:

OK. If there's nothing wrong with the DirectX, the graphic drivers are up to date and the Graphic card is set up correctly, then the only thing left is that the game hasn't installed properly.
Now, with the Ultimate Collection it has been seen that if the language set on your account in Origin is not the same as the language you choose for the game, it will install incompletely.

So basically, you're going to need to do a reinstall. Sorry.

If all else fails, then running it in windowed mode won't be the end of the world?

@Daleylife
OK. Now we know where we are. You have the same problem that Nama had - which is your graphics card is up for it, but your CPU isn't.
Your CPU is
CPU: 2793Mhz, Name:GenuineIntel, FPU:1, MMX:1 <-- hi-res needs to be 3000Mhz.

To fix this I have a specialised card which I have attached to the first post. It is called GraphicRules-INTEL-MedCPU

Install it in the same place. And then go into the game. Come back out, and have a look in your config-log.txt if you can find the word 'Nama' then it's installed properly, and you should be having anti-alias.

If you have anti-alias, then you need to up your smooth edges to more. And you should be good to go

@ricchanono
At this point all I can suggest is that you do a search for *config-log.txt on all your drives.
I don't know why you don't have a log folder in your game.

Okay. I installed the med intel file, went in the game, had the same problems: flickering, transparent sims (now they were just flat out disappearing) and no SMOOTH EDGES. Went out of the game, and found Nama in the config file. Thank you for trying to help, but it looks like I'm just SOL.

EDIT: I noticed that actually, at least in the neighborhood screen, if I didn't move the camera at all, the came was hi-res (based on the water.) But, anytime I moved the camera, the game would switch to low res. This is the "flickering" I was describing. It's switching between modes. WTH?

@Daleylife did you add the new file in both locations as outlined in the first post?

@Daleylife - did you push the Smooth edges completely up to More? like in the first picture? The flickering/stuttering is because of that.

@tori.crusan
Before I can help you I need to see your config-log.txt which can be found in your game folder

\My Documents\Origin Games\The Sims 2\Log\

Dear People who want to play TS2.

Sunday is my day of rest, so I won't be monitoring this thread for the next 24 hours. In the meantime - if you have a problem (and I haven't already started helping you) - Please go to the first thread and read it carefully.

Then provide a config-log.txt with your problem. Thanks.

Kiri

ETA: Please note - I found a new fix for the missing config-log.txt and other files - see at the end of the first post for details.
